Mainstream Media Sources

Who owns mainstream media sources usually has an effect on what you see, as well as what's coming up first in Google. I got my first degree in telecommunications and broadcasting, and did my first internship at a South Carolina news station back in the early 90s. (I didn't last long; I wasn't happy with the inner hierarchies) In addition, I've built many websites and have done a lot of research on Google and how things get positioned online. (There are hierarchies there, too. It's not all just algorithms) What I'm trying to say is that there is always going to be a good reason we're exposed to what we're exposed to online and everywhere else. This is nothing new, it's just a little more transparent than it was.

The biggest problems we've got is a tendency to abstain from doing our own research,  and the fact that most of us are too economically drowned out to spend time doing it. We're busy as hell, trying to keep our kids healthy and happy, and just can't spend an hour looking everything up. So in came social media and very short clips of distracting garbage. If we only had time to stop for a little while each day and think about things. Thinking is not as respected as it used to be.

Did anyone ever think about the people behind their giant media networks? Did anyone ever pay attention to the lives and brains of these men? There are 15 of them. Here's the list.

Michael Boomberg. Rupert Murdoch. Donald & Samuel Newhouse. The Cox family. Jeff Bezos. John Henry (Boston) and Sheldon Adelson (Las Vegas). John Mansueto. Mortimer Zuckerman. The Barbey Family. Stanley Hubbard. Patrick Soon-Shiong. Carlos Slim Helu. Warren Buffet. Viktor Vekselburg.

I'm not saying any of these dudes are evil. I kind of like Warren Buffet. Just know who's controlling your sources of information. And if you don't think they have anything personal to do with what's going out, you're wrong. Try working at a news station.
