The Gun Control Cavalry

Well, when I first wrote this, it was fast and angry. Then I took a time out, went back, and realized it sounded mean. I thought, "hmm.. I should write about something else.. or rewrite this.. it sounds so angry." And I made it nicer. And then I thought about it again. "You know what? Why do I even give a rat's ass about what anyone thinks of my angst towards gun control? I'm not a famous person who has to consider her reputation. I can write anything I want. This is my voice." So whatever. I went back and put the original post back down. And here it is.

Fuck this gun control bandwagon that happens every time a shooting occurs. It's worn out, and it's lacking. Thinking there's a rightist, leftist, and centered position on any of it is horse shit, too. Can anyone address a real problem in this country, or are we a bunch of self-centered, oblivious pansies?

Let me rehash the same old shit for some who might have missed it:

Anyone who's up to no good or mentally incompetent is not going to go through the proper channels to acquire a gun. No law is going to stop them. If they can't buy one at the store, they'll go somewhere else. I can go down the street right now and buy a handgun right under your nose. It's called the black market, and it's in your back yard. There are plenty of underground sources for guns. They're all over the place. Because America is based around militancy.

You can't fix a symptom without looking for the source. There's a reason mass shootings are occurring in America, and it goes much deeper than how easy it is or isn't to purchase a gun. We've got a failing educational system experimenting with behavior modification. There's more mental illness than ever, due to bad health systems, toxic food and over-prescribed, wrongful medications, and we've been ignoring and neglecting children for years. Oh yeah, and we're a profiting war country. There's a ton of muck there if you stick your hand down in it.

We've based our entire culture in America around militarism. Even the coolest, trendiest clothes look like you could get them from a military surplus store. We make more money off wars and weapons than anything else, and we're priming every kid around to obey and serve in that same militant manner. We parade so much gore and violence in front of them that they're disassociated from humanity, so what else is expected here?

This place is a wreck, and people think gun control is going to stop violence and mass shootings? And if someone disagrees, they're supposedly some sort of categorized righty tightie with a Dixie flag in their backyard? There's no right, left or center. People can't be categorized that easily. We've dumbed ourselves down so low we can't even wrap our heads around the complexities of a situation anymore. Did you know that most native English speakers don't even know how to use English? When someone somewhere in some land off the beaten path can earn my respect, I might pay attention to what they have to say about gun control. Until then, kiss my left ovary.
